Over nine months ago the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android smartphone arrived on the Verizon Wireless network in the United States, bearing two very welcome guests in the middle of the holiday shopping season to Android smartphone shoppers. The handset was the coming out party for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system, and also delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in, user accessible data storage space of any smartphone, at 32 GB. Instantly becoming a flagship device for the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the US, the Galaxy Nexus 4G also delivers a large high-resolution screen, powerful dual core processor and high resolution video capture.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon is on sale now starting at 29.99.

Offering simultaneous data and voice access and speeds up to 10 times faster than their old 3G network, that Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system has been lauded by independent reviewer RootMetrics as the fastest and most reliable at providing 4G speeds of any US network. Download speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) can be expected, with upload speeds reaching 2 to 5 Mbps. Slim for a smartphone if not a bit heavy on average, the handset measures 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.37 inches (135.5 x 67.94 x 9.47 mm) and weighs 5.29 ounces (150 g).

The 4.65 inch Super AMOLED screen on the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus is one of the largest found on any smartphone, and is protected by a scratch resistant Oleophobic coating. Pixel density runs 316 pixels per inch, one of the highest delivered by a 4G smartphone, and overall screen resolution also runs to the high-end comparably, at 720 x 1,280 pixels. More than 16 million individual colors are used to create visual displays, and the handset accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures. On the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system in the United States, the Galaxy Nexus 4G smartphone delivers up to 12.00 hours of talk time from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board.

Samsung chose a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package as the cornerstone of its hardware set, and that is centered around a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processing unit. A separate PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor is also on board, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon comes with 1.0 GB of RAM system memory built-in. The rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder is joined by a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo, and that rear snapper records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD) and 30 frames per second. The front facing chat cam also offers video call support, and a built-in music player joins a proprietary YouTube video player in the multimedia package. Near Field Communications (NFC) support is offered out-of-the-box, and Google integration runs complete with Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk and Picasa applications.
