lumia928Although the brand-new Nokia Lumia 928 4G LTE smartphone delivers what many analysts are calling the best camera found on any Verizon mobile handset, a recent price drop has the full-featured Windows Phone at a very affordable level. Priced at around the usual area you find feature phones and low-end handsets, the Verizon Nokia Lumia 928 4G will set you back about $49 on contract at select online retail outlets. Available since the middle of May, the handset delivers the latest Windows Phone 8 operating system, an extremely high pixel density and a large high-resolution display.

The Nokia Lumia 920 was a big hit thanks to its PureView camera technology and PureMotion HD+ display, but was a bit heavy and cumbersome for some people. The handset measures just 0.40 inches (10.1 mm) in thickness, and comes equipped with special high-performance microphones capable of capturing up to 140dB sound without distortion.

The Windows Phone 8 operating system runs the show, and the display measures a large 4.50 inches. That AMOLED screen is home to more than 16 million independent colors, providing interaction by supporting capacitive, multitouch gestures. Light and proximity sensors are integrated into the display, offering battery conservation through auto dimming and auto brightness adjustment. Pixel density is high at 332 pixels per inch, as is resolution at 768 by 1,280 pixels overall.

Those power saving features mentioned above help the phone to a whopping 16.20 hours of talk time after a full charge. This is double the industry standard of 8.0 hours, and an incredible battery standby time of 25.2 days is also provided. Nokia chose a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system-on-a-chip to power the Lumia 928 4G, and it is built around a speedy dual core 1.5 GHz processor. 1.0 GB of RAM is on board, and a generous 32 GB of built-in data storage space is present.

The handset offers NFC wireless connectivity out-of-the-box, as well as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and DLNA video out options. The high-end camera on the back of the phone provides several different “lenses”, which are actually applications offering different customization and special effects features. That rear snapper has an 8.7-megapixel sensor and PureView camera, complete with wide-angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). Video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution, and the front facing 1.2 megapixel VGA quality chat cam can also be used for video calls.
