When Motorola first came out with the status of its development of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the handsets in its stable back in February, we saw the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G still at the Evaluation and Planning stage of its ICS development. At that time, this meant that the handset still had a long way to go on its journey to get upgraded to the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system.

However, when the manufacturer came out with its updated Ice Cream Sandwich plans a couple of weeks back, we saw a big jump in the status of the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G with the handset now in the Development phase of its ICS development. What’s more, Motorola confirmed that the ICS update for the handset is expected to get rolled out before the end of Q2.

With June already in full swing, this leaves Motorola with less than 30 days if they are to make good on their promised ICS rollout before the end of this quarter. This makes us think twice if the manufacturer will be able to push through with its plans of getting the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Verizon on the other hand hasn’t released any word yet to confirm or deny this schedule released by Motorola but there are certain rumors that are circulating that the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G will actually get the update to Ice Cream Sandwich earlier than expected. In fact, a reliable source close to the wireless provider revealed that Verizon ais planning to start the rollout of the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G on June 12.

Again, we remind you to take everything with a grain of salt especially with cases like this but if the claims of the Verizon source pans out, we can expect the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G get upgraded directly to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and skip 4.0.3. Also, the decision to eschew 4.0.3 and go directly to 4.0.4 is said to be the reason as to why the ICS update for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G got delayed. Be that as it may, we are getting the handset upgraded to ICS either way so all we got to do at this point is to cross our fingers that the update doesn’t get delayed again.

As for the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G, the handset has its circuitry built around its Texas Instruments OMAP4430 chipset. This gives the handset dual-core capabilities with a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor paired with 1GB of RAM to deliver the computing power required by the handset for a snappy operation. It has 16GB of onboard storage with the option to have it expanded through the microSD card slot of the handset. Not only that, it comes with a preinstalled 16GB microSd card for memory expansion purposes. Display-wise, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G comes with a 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED Advanced panel with a 540 x 960 resolution while its camera department is comprised of a rear 8MP camera with Full HD 1080p recording and a front-facing 1.3MP webcam.  Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx starting at $149.

  2. I am not surprised one bit! Typical hype bullsh|t, give the people/customers what we want! We’re paying for it each and every month with these loaded cell phone bills.

  3. Yep.. still not ICS here either.. getting a bit frustrated really. If they are saying its problems with their over the air update servers then I wish they would give us the option to just download it and do a manual update.
