To say that the Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone was following a tough act is an understatement of proportions as large as the best-selling success of the entire Galaxy S line for Samsung. Easily the best selling line of mobile handsets for that smartphone manufacturer, Samsung Galaxy S devices have all become flagship smartphones for their respective wireless carriers. The Samsung Galaxy S II Android smartphone lineup worldwide alone has sold more than 50 million units and counting, so the Galaxy S III had some big shoes to fill. Doing better than even Samsung expected, the Galaxy S III smartphone launched exclusively for AT&T originally when it landed in the US, but is now also offered by Verizon for their 4G LTE network.

The Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon is on sale now starting at 149.99.

The launch date on that Verizon platform was July 12, and the handset delivers Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system out-of-the-box, as well as high resolution video capture, one of the largest high resolution screens found on any mobile handset, and Near Field Communications (NFC) support. That NFC support means out-of-the-box wireless application access to retail payment processing applications like Google Wallet, and touch to share data share apps like Android Beam.

One of the unique features found on board the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone is called the Color App. While not an entirely descriptive application name for the features that it delivers, this handy app allows you to broadcast live 60 second video blasts complete with audio, and still images instantly to your Facebook friends. Another cool feature is the Share Shot mode, and this allows you to set up a temporary photo sharing network with other GS III handset owners who are within Wi-Fi distance. As soon as that Wi-Fi connection is made photos are shared instantly with everyone in that network.

Running ICS 4.0.4 out-of-the-box, Google recently promised to upgrade the GS III to the new Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system by the end of the third quarter in the United States. They also said the GS III would be the first handset to receive their new operating system upgrade over the air, and that is slated to happen by September 30. The handset measures 5.39 x 2.80 x 0.34 inches (137 x 71 x 8.6 mm) and weighs 4.70 ounces (133 g), making it light and extremely thin when compared to other smartphones.

The GS III for Verizon delivers a large 4.8 inch display with 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution, protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2. The powerful 1.5 GHz dual core processor joins the most out-of-the-box RAM system memory at 2.0 GB in the hardware package on board the handset. Video capture is provided at 1,080P HD resolution, and popular online destinations Facebook, Picasa, YouTube and Twitter are pre-installed.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S III for Verizon now starting at 149.99.
