The Motorola Droid RAZR arrived on Friday, November 11, Veterans Day, on Verizon’s 4G LTE wireless broadband network as the third Droid device on that platform. The Samsung Droid Charge and the Motorola Droid Bionic were the two Droids that preceded the RAZR, and that brings the total number of phones on the Swift 4G LTE to seven. Independent network tester RootMetrics just this week released their findings compiled after testing all the four major 4G carriers in the United States. They found that the Verizon 4G LTE was far and away the quickest network, and across the United States, achieved true 4G speeds 66% of the time, as opposed to only 40.7% of the time for AT&T, 39.5% of the time for T-Mobile, with Sprint bringing up the rear.

At $199 for new customers and $229 for existing customers who upgrade, the Droid Razr is a solid choice if your looking for a fast thin 4G powerhouse.

RootMetrics defines 4G speeds as download speeds of at least 3 MB per second, which translates to a download time of less than 10 minutes for a 30 minute TV show. 4G upload times are defined by RootMetrics as at least 1 MB per second. The Motorola Droid RAZR Gingerbread smartphone is only the second dual core handset to arrive on the Verizon 4G LTE network. The processor on board is a 1.2 GHz dual core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 chip, with an accompanying PowerVR SGX540 graphics processing card. 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of storage are also present.

The anorexic RAZR comes in at a very thin 7.1 mm (0.28 inches), and 4.48 ounces. There are microUSB and microSD slots built in, and dual camcorders as well. The camera on the rear of the Droid RAZR is an 8.0 megapixel model with LED flash, autofocus and image stabilizer, and records in 1080P HD at 30 frames per second. The front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam also offers video call capability. The display uses Super AMOLED technology to offer 540 x 960 pixel resolution and supports 16 million colors. It is a 4.30 capacitive touch screen covered with a protective layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. The original Motorola RAZR went on sale in 2004, and became the flagship device for Motorola, eventually selling over 50 million units worldwide.
