Sprint recently launched their first 4G LTE network in the United States, and consumer-electronics manufacturer LG is offering their powerful quad core Optimus G for that speedy 4G system. While the Internet rumor mill had already alerted smartphone and mobile marketplace aficionados that the LG Optimus G was in the works, the handset was officially announced on October 3, with current plans to release on November 11. However, select online retailers like Wirefly are offering the handset for pre-order sales. The handset delivers a quad core central processor and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory, a combo that is only found on one or two other smartphones currently.

The LG Optimus G is available for preorder at select online retailers now starting at 149.99.

The Galaxy Note II by LG competitor Samsung also delivers a quad core processor and 2.0 GB of RAM system memory, but is a full 20% larger and heavier than the LG Optimus G. The Optimus G comes in at a wafer thin 0.33 inches (8.45 mm) in thickness, and delivers one of the highest megapixel counts for a smartphone camcorder in the entire mobile marketplace. That 13.0 megapixel rear snapper comes with a built-in LED flash and offers voice activation, a burst mode, digital zoom, ISO control and many more customization features, while recording video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD).

The LG Optimus G delivers the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system and Optimus UI version 3.0, accepting standard multitouch, capacitive gestures. The IPS LCD display on board the handset is one of the largest on any smartphone at 4.70 inches, and pixel density runs to the high-end comparatively at 318 pixels per inch. That gives the display an overall resolution of 768 x 1,280 pixels, with more than 16 million colors represented. Light and proximity sensors on the LG Optimus G 4G offer auto brightness adjustment and battery conservation, and a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protects the display against scratching and chipping.

The 2,100 mA battery on board delivers significant battery performance, offering 13.0 hours of talk time from a single charge. The quad core 1.5 GHz Krait central processor joins an Adreno 320 GPU in the hardware package, and the above-mentioned 2.0 GB of RAM system memory are accompanied by a full 32 GB of built-in storage, the most offered by any smartphone. The high-resolution camcorder is joined by a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo, with that front snapper providing video call support. The LG Optimus G for Sprint also delivers a built-in music player with Dolby Mobile sound enhancement, as well as a built-in YouTube video player.

You can pre-order the LG Optimus G now starting at 149.99.
