According to recent reports, the voice of Siri was abruptly silenced this Thursday, leaving the users of the new iPhone 4S without their voice based personal assistant and Apple struggling to control the second big issue to have hit the popular smartphone just a few weeks after being released. The much hyped voice assistant feature in the 4S, which is also one of the biggest attractions for the phone, was at the receiving end of an outage this Thursday.

The assistant responded with messages that said that something was wrong when the users of the phone tried to access its services. In order to answer the questions of its users, Siri needs to communicate with the servers at Apple for accessing additional information and answers are simply shown as unavailable if the device can’t connect with the central database.

There has been no official comment from Apple about the problem, which the company seems to have rectified today. According to a statement from an employee at Apple Care, the problems could have been a result of an outage of the network. The rapidly growing popularity of the latest Apple smartphone could also have been a reason behind the outage, taking into account the fact that more than five million units of the phone have already been sold since the phone was launched a couple of weeks ago. The service could have been overloaded or it could have suffered from a glitch, all of which needs to be looked into by Apple the soonest possible as Siri is one of the main marketing tools for the 4S.

Since last week, the iPhone 4S has also suffered from several problems concerning battery drainage. The company was said to have found a number of bugs in the phone’s software which affected the life of the battery. Apple has announced an update for iOS 5 to solve the issues after it admitted to the problems when complaints started pouring in from customers. The concerns of many iPhone 4S users were eased after the announcement that the battery problem was not related to the hardware. Similarly, it is very likely that the problem with Siri is not related with the phone itself, but with the servers at the company which provide the service.
