With everyone these days tending toward the huge, full-featured Android phones which seem to be getting bigger and bigger, there is still quite a significant market for more compact smartphones to deliver features found on bigger handsets. And there is always that part of the marketplace which prefers a budget priced handset, rather than paying a three figure price tag for features that are not desired or that will never be used. Verizon Wireless announced on Tuesday, September 4 that they will begin selling the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) enabled Samsung Galaxy Stellar 4G on September 6. The handset is due to run on their 4G LTE system in the United States.

Delivering Android’s ICS operating system out-of-the-box is a boon, as currently only around 7% of current Android smartphones offer the ICS OS. Physically the Samsung Galaxy Stellar 4G appears like most current smartphones, in the typical candy bar form factor. The handset measures 4.87 x 2.50 x 0.50 inches (123.8 x 63.5 x 12.7 mm) and weighs 4.7 ounces (133 g). The 4.0 inch LCD display offers a pixel density of 233 pixels per inch, delivering an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Standard capacitive, multitouch gestures are used to navigate the handset, a light sensor is built-in and offers auto brightness adjustment, and a proximity sensor helps conserve battery life.

With a reported talk time of 17.0 hours from a single battery charge, the Samsung Galaxy Stellar 4G will be easily one of the longer running smartphones available. That talk time is roughly double the average 4G smartphone talk time delivered from a single charge, and standby time runs approximately 9.0 days.

One unique feature of the handset is the dual interface selection offered. The Galaxy Stellar delivers both a Starter and Standard user interface mode. The starter mode is a much more trimmed down user interface that revolves around your favorite applications, and is perfect for those users who don’t need the full smartphone experience. The standard mode is just that, offering a more traditional Android experience.

A dual core 1.2 GHz central processor joins a graphics specific chip in the hardware package on board the handset, 4.0 GB of data storage is built-in with a microSD slot provided for storage expansion, and the handset delivers 768 MB of RAM memory. The Galaxy Stellar 4G sports a 3.2 megapixel camcorder with autofocus, digital zoom and Geo tagging features, as well as a front facing VGA quality chat cam in the camera combo. A YouTube video player joins a built-in music player in the multimedia package on board the handset. Buy the Samsung Galaxy Stellar now at a reduced price from select online retailers.
