While the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system has been available through unofficial versions thanks to independent programmers, last month ICS 4.0 became available officially through the Samsung website for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket. While not an over the air update, Galaxy S II Skyrocket owners can access ICS 4.0 for their Skyrocket through the Samsung Web portal. It is hard to believe that the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket has been around for a full nine months now, as it arrived in November of last year. The handset delivers a large screen, high-resolution display, speedy dual core processor and LTE connectivity on the AT&T 4G LTE wireless network.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is on sale now starting at 99.99.

With Jelly Bean 4.1 announced by Google, it is nice to see the powerful Galaxy S II Skyrocket received ICS 4.0 in time for an upgrade to Jelly Bean 4.1. No launch date for Jelly Bean 4.1 has been announced for the Galaxy S II Skyrocket, but Google has stated Galaxy S devices will be some of the first smartphones to receive the new operating system version. By improving processor speed and power by 25% over the incredibly popular and best-selling Galaxy S II line of handsets, Samsung designers have created one of the most powerful processors found in any smartphone.

And the 4.50 inch display is one of the largest on any smartphone. Slim for a mobile handset at 0.37 inches (9.49 mm), the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket 4G LTE Android smartphone is currently exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE network in the United States, and recently benefited from a retail price reduction to a sub-$100 price tag. More than 16 million individual colors are used to develop displays on the 4.50 inch multitouch, capacitive screen, and standard light and proximity sensors help conserve battery life and automatically adjust screen brightness. That Super AMOLED Plus screen delivers a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

Up to 7.0 hours of talk time and 10.5 days of standby are offered from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board, and handset operations are run by a Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon microchip suite. Included in that chip package is a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU, and an Adreno 220 GPU handles all graphics processing. The handset contains 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage.

A 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front) joins an 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) in the camera combo, and that rear device offers 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080p HD) video capture. Popular social media destinations Picasa, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook have been pre-installed, and the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket provides Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box.

Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket now starting at 99.99.
