The Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket arrived with the HTC Vivid on the new AT&T 4G LTE network as the first two handsets on that faster AT&T system. And it appears good news has arrived for the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, in the form of Android’s version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system (OS) being delivered to the HTC Vivid last week. A few days ago, an unofficial fully working version of ICS also arrived with the Samsung Galaxy  S II handset. This is not the official version sanctioned by AT&T or Samsung, but along with the arrival of ICS 4.0 for the HTC Vivid, can be seen as only positive news for those Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket owners hoping for their own yummy ICS OS.

The most recent unofficial ICS software upgrade was reported by Rootzwiki.com, and when pushed for details on the exact arrival date of ICS for the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket, neither AT&T nor Samsung was forthcoming, only promising an official update soon. Currently, the Ice Cream Sandwich Operating system is available on less than 2% of Android devices, with most of those being the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the phone which was the first handset to launch with ICS out-of-the-box.

However, arriving with the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket interface works well with that operating system, and delivers one of the best overall feature sets of any 4G smartphone. The display is larger than average in size, the processor has been clocked at speeds at the high end of the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, the RAM memory is substantial, and the megapixel count of the camera combo is one of the highest available.

The Super AMOLED Plus display is 4.5 inches and offers 480 x 800 resolution, protected with an overlay of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. The Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon power pack includes a dual core Scorpion chip clocked at 1.5 GHz, and a graphics dedicated Adreno 220 chip, and 16 GB of built-in storage combines with a healthy 1.0 GB of RAM memory to round out the hardware package. An 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) joins a 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front) in the camera package. That rear snapper offers autofocus, smile detection and Geo tagging features, and records video in 1080P HD resolution. Facebook, Picasa, YouTube and Twitter social media applications are preinstalled into the Samsung Galaxy  S II Skyrocket.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket starting at $99, a nice $100 less than the AT&T asking price.

  1. Skyrocket isn’t available on sprint

  2. This is what i hate about Android (i love everything else bide away). They release new versions of their software on one phone only, and the rest of us have to wait 6 effing months for the update. Even though we have the top of the line android phones. Pisses me off…
Just release the effing software when its available for at least 20% of the phones, that way we dont have to go out and buy a new phone every 4 months (ohhh wait, thats the point isnt it). Ohh yeah I forgot that you are running a multi billion dollar company and have investors to please. Well, when you find the time, think about the consumer for once and please us too.
