reddroidminiThe Motorola Droid Mini, Droid Ultra and Droid MAXX all debuted simultaneously, with all of them offering a 720P display, 10 megapixel Quick Capture camera and uniquely designed Moto X8 Mobile Computing System. However, until recently, the Motorola Droid Ultra could boast a characteristic not found on its two siblings. The Droid Ultra was the only one of those three handsets to be offered in an optional red body color, but that may have just changed.

You can purchase the Red Motorola Droid Mini at a reduced sale price now starting at just one penny at select online retailers.

Smartphone watchdog @evleaks recently tweeted a screen shot which was leaked online of a Motorola Droid Mini showing off a new red body option. That crimson cover may not be exclusive to the Motorola Droid Ultra for long, though the screen shot was not accompanied by any particular Motorola or Verizon information considering a proposed launch date or price tag. The red coloration covers the entire back Kevlar plate of the handset, and wraps around under the chin on the front of the phone. It is available for purchase at both Verizon and select online retailers.

Other than the color difference, the phone appears to be the same as other Motorola Droid Mini handsets. Currently the black Motorola Droid Mini running on Verizon 4G LTE system in the United States retails for just one penny on contract, and it would make sense coming into the holiday shopping season for the handset to carry the same price tag. As soon as we get more details on projected holiday pricing we will report them. The Motorola Droid Mini was also recently subject to a special invitation for those handset owners which are members of the Motorola feedback community.

Google, which purchased Motorola Mobility last year, recently reported that the KitKat 4.4 version of their operating system was alive and ready to ship to smartphones. Immediately after that announcement, Motorola guaranteed Droid Mini 4G owners that they would indeed receive KitKat 4.4, but failed to announce a launch date. The soak test invitation that Motorola feedback community members received did not mention what software or update was being tested, but this is good news for Motorola Droid Mini smartphone owners regardless what bug fixes or operating system upgrades are on the way.

While delivering a large 4.3 inch True HD display, Motorola designers have done an outstanding job in making the Motorola Droid Mini small, compact and light. The handset measures just 4.77 x 2.41 x 0.35 inches (121.25 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm), and weighs only 4.59 ounces. A generous 28.0 hours of talk time is achieved from a single battery charge, 2.0 GB of RAM memory has been added, as has 16 GB of built-in data storage, along with a recent delivery of 25 GB of free Google Drive virtual storage space. The Red Motorola Droid Mini for Verizon can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at only one cent!
