Rumors and speculation are building up that the new HTC Droid Incredible X is going to be next official Google flagship phone and this actually marks the shift from Google’s partnership with Samsung to HTC. While the first official Android and Google phone was indeed produced by HTC, the latter ones were all Samsung’s products and they were received pretty well by the consumers. The time seems appropriate for a new Nexus device and everyone has been talking about it lately which implies that this is actually going to happen.

The Incredible X from HTC is rumored to be a phablet, which is a hybrid between a phone and a tablet. It was speculated that this was initially being released as competition to the Galaxy Note from Samsung but it appears that Google’s penchant for large screens has gotten the better of it.

The new flagship phone is rumored to be called the Nexus 5 because it is either the fifth Nexus device or because it has a 5” screen. The latter reason seems more likely as Google’s 7” tablet is being called the Nexus 7. The Galaxy Nexus, which is the current flagship phone is quite popular and has earned a lot of appreciation due to the curved screen amongst other unique features.

While the Droid Incredible X seems to be the likely option speculation is also mounting that Google is going to continue its partnership with Samsung to come up with a Galaxy Nexus 2, which allegedly had some photos of itself leaked onto the internet. Moreover, even Sony and LG are vying for a place in the Nexus family. None of this is confirmed as of now but rumors continue to surface.

The Incredible X is going to feature a 5” screen with a 1080p full HD resolution and is going to be powered by a Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. In addition, it is going to have a 12 megapixel primary camera and a 2 megapixel secondary and is going to have 64GB of internal memory. If the Incredible X is indeed the next Google device then this is the first time that a hybrid is going to be chosen as the flagship phone.

It might take some time for the new Nexus to hit the market as Google has the habit of releasing devices with a new version of Android and since Jellybean was just revealed, it might take some time before the next version is out.
