motoxThe Motorola Moto X handset arrived a few days later than expected for Big Red, launching on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network in late August. Motorola has included their X8 computing system chip package on the Moto X, which minimizes battery consumption while spreading out processing tasks among eight separate computing cores. The phone also receives a substantial step up in camera technology, both in megapixels and features, and a large True HD high resolution display graces the front of the handset.

The Motorola Moto X is available at a reduced sale price starting at $184.99 at select online retailers.

The phone launched on the Verizon Wireless network with a $185 on contract price tag, and Motorola states that you can customize all aspects of your handset’s appearance. This includes headphones to match your back cover color, and the OLED display offers the Active Display notification feature, which only illuminates the part of the screen which is required for the notification. This joins other battery conservation features to deliver 13.0 hours of talk time from a single battery charge.

The phone is powered by the X8 Computing System, which revolves around a customized Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960 chip package. The CPU is a dual core 1.7 GHz processor, and a quad core graphics processor is also on board. A special and separate language processing core delivers an environmental awareness feature to the handset, with a separate contextual computing core also handling some of the processing duties. This focuses the central processor on your main requests and operations.

The environmental awareness feature Motorola is debuting gives the Moto X handset what the company calls an “always on” attribute. Even when the handset is sleeping or hibernating, it understands your vocal commands, and the 10.0 megapixel camera on the back of the phone is a step up from previous Motorola smartphone cameras. That rear facing snapper records video in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second in stereo sound, and debuts the new Motorola Clear Pixel technology. This has been added to reduce noise and blur, and has been designed to pull in more light than the standard smartphone camera.

The Moto X offers the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system out-of-the-box, displaying more than 16 million colors on its 4.70 inch touchscreen. The 720P display offers a pixel density of 316 ppi, and is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. 16 GB of onboard closet space is offered, and is accentuated by a free 50 GB of Google Drive virtual storage. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is also present, as is mobile hotspot support.

You can purchase the Motorola Moto X handset at a discounted price tag starting at $184.99.
