A little over a month ago Motorola Mobility announced that all their smartphones made in 2012 would receive an upgrade to the Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system by the end of the year. One of those handsets is the Droid Razr MAXX HD which debuted on October 18 on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE platform in the United States, and the good news is that an unofficial Jelly Bean 4.1 operating system has been leaked. Motorola does not recommend using an unofficial operating system build, but these unofficial OS versions generally arrive previous to an official OS OTA announcement.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD is available for a reduced price at select online retailers now starting at 199.99.

With a remote wipe that allows you to erase your hard drive remotely should your handset become lost or stolen, a personal identification number lock and government grade encryption for your e-mail and contacts, the Droid Razr MAXX HD adds security minded features to a rugged physical design. Previous handsets benefited from a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass, a DuPont Kevlar and aircraft grade aluminum body and splash-proof protection, and all those durable qualities are back on the Droid Razr MAXX HD.

The handset is offered in your choice of either black or white, and delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless connectivity out-of-the-box. Measuring 5.19 x 2.67 x 0.37 inches (131.9 x 67.9 x 9.3 mm) in size and weighing 5.54 ounces (157 g), the handset is slim, if not slightly heavier than the average 4G smartphone. The 4.70 inch display is one of the largest on any handset, and that Super AMOLED screen delivers a high-end pixel density of 312 pixels every inch. Screen resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, also at the high end of the mobile marketplace.

Standard light and proximity sensors on the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD 4G automatically adjust for the proper brightness and help conserve battery life, and both DLNA and microHDMI video out options are present. Battery life is extreme, owing to the MAXX name designation, and the oversized, extended life 3,300 mA battery on board delivers 15.5 days of standby. A single charge offers 13.0 hours of video playback, 21.0 hours of talk time, 10.0 hours of streaming video or an alternate 27.0 hours of streaming music over Verizon’s LTE network.

A 1.5 GHz Krait central processor joins an Adreno 225 graphics processing chip in the hardware package, and the 4G-best 32 GB of built-in storage round out the hardware profile along with 1.0 GB of LP DDR2 RAM system memory. An 8.0 megapixel camera captures video at 1,080P HD resolution and a YouTube video player has been pre-installed, as has the Google Chrome for Android web browser.

Buy the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD at a special introductory price now starting at 199.99.
