With one of the largest displays in the entire smartphone marketplace, the LG Spectrum 4G Android handset is the first such device to deliver true In Plane Switching (IPS) display technology to a Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone. IPS technology allows for detailed, high-resolution viewing even at extreme angles, delivers a sharp, high clarity picture, and helps reduce glare in bright light situations and direct sunlight. The handset delivers an extremely high pixel density and display resolution when compared to other 4G handsets, the above-mentioned large display, a substantial RAM memory allotment and one of the fastest processors in the entire smartphone arena. The LG Spectrum arrived on January 19 on that Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system which independent wireless reviewer RootMetrics claims outperformed the other big three US wireless carriers in upload, download speeds and consistency of performance in their tests. The handset can be found currently at a retail price of $49 at select Verizon authorized online retailers with a standard new two-year activation and data plan at online retailing giant Amazon.

The multitouch, capacitive, True HD IPS touch screen display runs 4.50 inches, and delivers 326 pixels per inch to the LCD display for an overall screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. More than 16 million colors are used when rendering visual display, and that screen is protected by an overlay of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. Above 4G-average talk time of 8.30 hours is delivered from a single charge of the 1,830 mA battery, and 14.5 days of standby is also offered.

The LG Spectrum 4G Android smartphone runs the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, and the Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon chip set includes a speedy, dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU and graphics dedicated Adreno 220 chip. 4 GB of built-in storage and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory join the hardware package, and a microSD slot is present for storage expansion and off board data access.

In the camera combo on board the LG Spectrum, a rear mounted 8.0 megapixel camcorder comes equipped with an LED flash and F2.4 aperture, while delivering a substantial list of customization features. Autofocus, exposure control, face detection, ISO control, geo-tagging, white balance, preloaded scenes, special effects and a self timer all deliver one of the most extensive camera feature packages on any 4G smartphone.

That camcorder has the capability of capturing video at 1920 x 1080 (1080P) HD resolution, and the front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam also allows for video call options. The on board dedicated mic with active noise cancellation supports video dialing, video memos and other voice commands. Video out is made possible through DLNA wireless technology, and Bluetooth 3.0 and 802.11 b, g, n Wi-Fi channels offer wireless connectivity options.  Buy the LG Spectrum 4G starting at $49.
