Since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year, users of Android-powered devices have been clamoring for the update to get rolled out to their respective devices. Smartphone manufacturers on the other hand have started seeding out the update to the handsets in their lineup but most of the handsets that already got upgraded to the latest version of the Android operating system are from the high-end category.

In the case of the LG Spectrum 4G from Verizon, the handset is still yet to get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich but its manufacturer already confirmed in the past that the smartphone will get the ICS update in the first half of 2012. Looking back, the LG Spectrum 4G actually just got an update late last month which cranked its software version to VS920V6 but the handset is still stuck in the Gingerbread generation to the dismay of its users.

However, there are certain developments that got pundits speculating that the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the LG Spectrum 4G is just around the corner. The source of these speculations is the leaked Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich build for the handset that managed to find its way to the internet. The boys over at XDA-developers managed to get their hands on the said leaked ICS build and are already trying earnestly to get it working on the LG Spectrum 4G.

Those who were lucky enough to get the ICS build flashed onto their LG Spectrum 4G handsets claim that it runs well and is fairly stable. This pushed pundits to further speculate that the said leaked ICS ROM for the handset is already a near-final build. However, they are quick to caution that this could probably be just a build being used by LG and Verizon for testing and isn’t the final release yet.

However, when you take into consideration the fact that LG already announced that the official Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update will be hitting the LG Spectrum 4G in the first half of 2012 and then throwing in into the equation this current leaked ICS build that recently surfaced, there is a big chance that the eagerly-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update is already looming in the horizon and can land on the LG Spectrum 4G sooner than expected.

As for the specs sheet of the handset, the LG Spectrum 4G is powered by a QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset under the hood where its SoC configuration brings to the handset a dual-core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and 1GB of RAM for a buttery-smooth performance. The internal memory onboard the LG Spectrum 4G is a bit meager at 4GB but memory expansion is possible on the handset. Not only that, the smartphone also comes preinstalled with a 16GB microSD card for this purpose.

The LG Spectrum 4G also comes with a glorious display in the form of its 4.5-inch HD-IPS LCD panel with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department equips the handset with a rear-facing 8MP camera capable of 1080p recording and a 1.3MP front-facer for video calls and self-portraits.  Buy the LG Spectrum starting at $19.

  1. Earlier than expected????!?!?!? They told us it would be out by the end of spring. That’s only about 2.5 weeks away. Hardly what I’d be jumping up and down about and calling early. More like procrastinating til the last possible minute, if they get it out by then!
