Arriving on January 19 as the 11th handset on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE wireless network, the LG Spectrum 4G Android handset delivers a true High Definition IPS display that LG borrowed from their HD televisions. The overall resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels is achieved through a pixel density of 326 pixels per inch. That LCD screen also displays visuals in 16 million unique colors, and is navigated through capacitive multitouch gestures.

A light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness on the display depending on the amount of light hitting screen, so the view is always sharp even in direct sunlight. The onboard motion sensor shuts the device off when not in use to conserve battery life, and a protective layer of Gorilla Glass overlays the display. Physically the Spectrum looks like most other 4G smartphones, arriving as a black, rectangular slab and measuring 5.33 x 2.71 x 0.42 inches (135 x 69 x 11 mm) in size, weighing 4.99 ounces (142 g). Google’s Android Gingerbread operating system is present out-of-the-box.
The battery conserving motion sensor helps the LG Spectrum achieve 8.30 hours of consecutive talk time and 14.5 days standby from a single charge of the 1830 mAh battery. The hardware package on board delivers one of the fastest microprocessors in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion chip. An Adreno 220 graphics processor is also on board the Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon chip set. LG has built-in 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 4 GB of onboard storage. The built-in microSD slot allows for storage expansion up to 32 GB.
In the camera combo, a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder with LED flash provides a full cadre of features, allowing for extreme personalization and customization of video and still photos. Autofocus, face detection, white balance, geo-tagging, special effects, special preloaded scenes, exposure control, ISO control and a self timer are among the camera’s feature set. That rear mounted camera captures video at 1080P HD resolution, and the front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam offers video call support as well.
The LG Spectrum 4G Android smartphone retails for $79 at select Verizon authorized retailers with a standard two-year activation and data plan and is exclusive to the Verizon Wireless LTE platform. Wireless connectivity is delivered through both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth access, the onboard music player can filter by album, artist or play lists and provides album art cover, and supports all major audio file formats. A proprietary YouTube video player is also on board. Buy the LG Spectrum starting at $79.99.
