The Kindle Touch retails for $99 and is Amazon’s first attempt at designing a touch screen activated eReader. And while the Kindle Touch compares favorably to other touchscreen eReading devices, offers free Library Lending access and free unlimited Cloud Storage for any Amazon content, features that are unique to Amazon, what was already a good thing just got better. Puzzle technology startup Puzzazz has designed an application that allows the Amazon  Kindle Touch  eReader to understand numbers and letters written on the screen with your finger.

With a 6 inch display, tapping the virtual keys on the small onboard touch-activated keyboard can be difficult at times, and this new application is sure to be a hit for Kindle Touch eReader owners, especially those who are keyboard-intensive. The technology developed by Puzzazz is named TouchWrite, and was developed in-house by their own engineers. As long as your scribbles come anywhere close to being recognized as numbers and letters, the Kindle Touch will now “read” your writing.

Puzzazz recently released their third volume of Sudoku puzzles, entitled Sudoku Unbound Volume 3, and this new TouchWrite technology was released in accordance with that app launch. And unlike past attempts at handwriting recognition software and applications, the Amazon Kindle Touch owner does not have to learn a whole new series of gestures, as it has been intensively programmed to recognize anyone’s form of handwriting and number writing, according to Puzzazz founder Roy Leban.

The Kindle Touch eReader has become Amazon’s best-selling eReading device, and was designed 8% lighter and 11% smaller than the previous Kindle  eReader. The 6 inch display delivers 600 x 800 pixel resolution, and is less than 1/2 inch thick. The Kindle Touch charges in less than 4 hours, and holds a charge for up to 60 days at a consumption rate of 30 minutes e-reading per day. E-book downloads take less than 60 seconds via the Wi-Fi access which requires no contract.

The Amazon Kindle Touch eReader weighs 7.5 ounces and comes preloaded with 4 GB of storage, has no microSD slot for storage expansion, but as mentioned above, storage is limitless and free for all Amazon content. The 6 inch screen uses Pearl E-Ink technology which allows for perfect viewing even in direct sunlight, and Amazon’s Library Lending program is a contract between Amazon and over 11,000 libraries in the US to access their digital content from the comfort and privacy of your home on the Kindle Touch.  Buy the Kindle Touch starting at $99.
