Back when Google unveiled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the latest iteration of its Android mobile operating system a couple of months ago, HTC was one of the manufacturers that took center stage to confirm that the Jelly Bean refresh will make its way to the HTC One X. This is not surprising at all given the fact that the handset is the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer’s current flagship device (but not for long, with the announcement of the HTC One X+) and we all know how these updates are usually made available to the high-end devices in the market because they pack impressive components under the hood that can handle the update with relative ease.

The announcement back then was a double-edged sword though because despite assuring users of the HTC One X that Jelly Bean will in time land on the handset, HTC neglected to mention a specific timeframe for the rollout of the update so these same users have no idea as to how long they have to wait until the Jelly Bean refresh for their device becomes available.

It turns out that users of the HTC One X only has about a month left to wait for the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to get rolled out to their handsets. This, after HTC officially confirmed that it will start rolling out the Jelly Bean refresh to the handset this October. Sad to say, there is again no exact date as to when we can expect Jelly Bean to hit the HTC One X 4G but at least, with the “October timeframe”, we know that the most we have to wait is about a month.

In addition to that, HTC confirmed that the Jelly Bean update for the HTC One X will come with an upgrade to Sense 4+, the manufacturer’s custom UI for the its One series of devices. With this in play, the HTC One X will get a Self-Portrait mode on its front-facing shooter which will make it detect a human face before it snaps the best still shot. The Gallery app will also get two new views while all video-related content courtesy of HTC Watch 2.0 will be made available in a single hub. The update will also bring Google Now and Project Butter to the handset.

As for users of carrier-branded versions of the handset such as the HTC One X 4G released by AT&T in US shores, the wait will be a little longer because a carrier still needs to put the whole update through a rigorous testing process to ensure its viability and compatibility with its network before it gives out the green light for the update to get rolled out – a proceddure that inevitably and more importantly, unnecessarily delays the whole update rollout process.
