nexus5bGoogle chose Halloween to officially release its Nexus 5 smartphone running on the Sprint 4G LTE system in the United States, and it currently makes a frighteningly speedy, big-screened bargain. Also available in an unlocked version, the on contract Sprint 4G capable Google Nexus 5 was recently spotted at the bargain price of around $15 on contract, available during Amazon’s annual holiday sale. As a well-rounded phone, the Google Nexus 5 delivers what is arguably the fastest processor and highest pixel density of any mobile handset. Generous RAM memory is also on board, as is a large and high resolution display.

And regarding the quad core Snapdragon 800 system chip backed up by 2.0 GB of RAM memory, the CPU has been clocked at a blazing 2.3 GHz. That is easily one of the fastest processors ever designed for a smartphone, offering speed generally found on laptops and tablet PCs. The handset also delivers the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out-of-the-box, and arrives in a slim and light form factor. Lighter than most 5-inchers, the Google Nexus 5 for Sprint weighs just 4.59 ounces (130 g), and measures a slim 0.34 inches (8.59 mm).

The 5.0 inch display delivers a Full HD designation with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, with more than 16 million separate colors spread across that multitouch, capacitive screen at the rate of 445 pixels located over each inch of display space. A third generation layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass protects the phone’s display from your everyday wear and tear, and the 2,300 mA battery helps extend your portability by offering a generous 17.0 hours of talk time after a full battery charge. That battery also supports wireless charging.

Google had the handset designed in a partnership with LG, and has included a powerful Adreno 330 graphics processor and 16 GB of built-in data storage space in the phone’s hardware package. Multiple wireless technologies are present, allowing for a wide variety of connectivity choices. Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, DLNA and NFC wireless options are on board, and fitness-minded individuals will enjoy the fact that the Sprint Nexus 5 4G smartphone also comes equipped with a built-in step detector, step counter and compass.

The handset supports voice dialing, voice recording and multiple voice commands, and can be used as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot for multiple wireless devices. Built into the back of the Google Nexus 5 is an 8.0 megapixel camcorder which delivers a dual recording function working in tandem with the front facing chat cam. Video is recorded in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second, and the rear snapper boasts a multishot burst mode, digital zoom, a self timer, auto and touch to focus as well as optical image stabilization and a video light.
