The iPhone 5 seems to have really impressed just about everybody, with raving reviews coming in from all major reviewers. TechCrunch reviewer MG Siegler writes “The iPhone 5 shines in just about every conceivable way,” adding, “I really do believe this is the best iPhone upgrade that Apple has done yet.”

Scott Stein at CNET also had a lot to say and remarked that it was the iPhone “we’ve always wanted” and that “It’s absolutely the best iPhone to date, and it easily secures its place in the top tier of the smartphone universe.”

Which brings us to the question : What did Apple really do that made the iPhone 5 such a big hit? Apple added LTE connectivity to this version of the iPhone which made it “fast as hell.” The iPhone 5’s connection speed is now 10 times faster than that of the iPhone 4S, according to Walt Mossberg of All Things D.

The New York Times’ David Pogue is impressed by the camera and said that “ the camera is among the best ever put into a phone.” He continues to write : “The new phone, in all black or white, is beautiful. Especially the black one, whose gleaming, black-on-black, glass-and-aluminum body carries the design cues of a Stealth bomber.” Stein from CNET also says that “you’re going to be shocked at how light this phone is.” This was a thought shared by most reviewers who felt that the device was so light it disappeared into one’s pocket. However most reviewers also said it didn’t feel cheap like Android phones.

One of the major points of criticism of the iPhone was that it was great device for everything but being a phone. However, Apple seems to have rectified the issue and Mossberg reports:” voice calls I made on the iPhone 5 were clear, better than in the past. I had no dropped calls.”

Most reviewers have no complaints with the iPhone, or if they do, the’re trivial at best. David Pogue from the Times says that he’s upset that Apple had a new charging chord. Mossberg doesn’t like Apple Maps because “they tend to default to a more zoomed-in view than Google’s, making them look emptier until you zoom out.”

However Apple still doesn’t have transit maps, an issue which the company said it would address through third party apps.
Most people also do not have anything to say about Apple’s bigger screen. Apple however, has really done well with the latest version of their iPhone and as Siegler summed it up, “This is the smartphone nearly perfected.”
