ipad5The newest iPad models will be ready to ship by the time busy shoppers hit the stores to check out new devices according to reports from this week.  Apple has an event scheduled for the 15th of October and it can be expected that at the event the company is going to be showcasing the new iPad Mini 2, as well as the iPad 5.  Apple originally wanted to launch the fifth generation iPad back in March, but as you can see, that did not happen.  Historically, Apple has been very good about keeping a release schedule around the same months each year.

Even though Apple missed the hope release date, at least the new iPad will be ready to ship around the holidays.  Apple is reportedly going to call the new iPad the “iPad with Retina display”, but for the most part to consumers it will be known as the iPad 5.  Keeping the name simple will allow owners the chance to find cases and accessories faster, especially if the design changes from the 4th generation model.  When the iPad 4 launched it was actually an “S” model which updated the iPad line which brought a new connector and a new processor for consumers to enjoy.

For the most part the iPad 4 was released with the same design and without any major feature upgrades in 2012, but those in the market for the fifth generation iPad are expecting to see some changes to the design and the hardware.  With Apple waiting an extra couple of months, Samsung was able to get the new Note 10.1 device to the market.  Not that Samsung will be taking market share from Apple in the tablet space, but the device is already out there, regardless of the fact that it costs $50 more than the iPad.

The iPad 5 is rumored to have a smaller, thinner design similar to the iPad Mini, as well as the same display technology found there as well.  The overall design is expected to be a bigger iPad Mini with a much higher resolution display.  The iPad 5 could arrive in Space Grey like the new iPhone 5S, while the iPad Mini 2 could arrive in gold and that opens the door for the iPad 5 in gold.  The new A7 or A7X processor will be installed in the device and could include the new M7 co-processor that was introduced in the iPhone 5S.
