When Samsung released information about the status of the Ice Cream Sandwich development for its stable of handsets, the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S II will be one of the first handsets in its lineup to get upgraded to the latest iteration of the Android mobile operating system and the update is set to land during the first quarter of 2012. True enough, the manufacturer was able to rollout the ICS update for its flagship handset back in March but the update was only for the international version of the device.

As to be expected, carrier-specific variants of the Samsung Galaxy S II are still waiting to get a tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich at this point in time. If you happen live across the pond in the UK and have Vodafone for your wireless provider of choice, this seems to be the case for the carrier’s version of the Samsung Galaxy  S II. Earlier reports have indicated that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the handset is expected to land sometime today but sad to say, there is still no sign that the update is already being rolled out to the Vodafone Samsung Galaxy  S II.

In a spate of finger-pointing, the carrier is throwing the ball back to Samsung’s court for its apparent failure to make the ICS update for the Vodafone Samsung Galaxy S II available as scheduled today. Vodafone however confirmed that the delay will only be for a day and the plan is for Samsung to deliver the update tomorrow and will initially be made available via the KIES software. The ICS update for the handset will also be rolled out via OTA but the time frame for that is not until April 17 so if you happen to have a Samsung Galaxy S II from Vodafone, you only don’t have much longer to wait.

In the meantime, to keep you company while waiting for the ICS update to land on your device, we have the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy S II below for your reading pleasure.

The Samsung Galaxy S II reached official status when it was announced by Samsung last year in February but it wasn’t until April that the handset finally became available for public consumption. It has internals that befit a flagship handset starting with its Samsung Exynos chipset which brings a dua-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor running at 1.2 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM to the smartphone. Its storage pace is pegged at 16GB but this is expandable via the dedicated microSD card slot of the device. The claim to fame of the handset though is its stunning 4.3-inch SuperAMOLED Plus display made from Gorilla Galss and has a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. The camera department of the Samsung Galaxy S II is equally as capable with its rear 8-megapixel main autofocus shooter and a front-facing 2-megapixel webcam for video calls and self-portraits.
