HTC Vivid 4G To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich in March

The HTC Vivid 4G Android handset is one of several HTC smartphones that will receive a free over the air upgrade to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system in March. Retailing for $119 with a standard two-year activation and data plan on the AT&T 4G LTE network, the HTC Vivid 4G Android handset offers one of the largest displays in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace at 4.5 inches. The handset arrives with the Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, and is typical in size and slightly heavier in weight when compared to other 4G smartphones.

The HTC Vivid 4G debuted in a very typical smartphone form factor, as a black, slim, rectangular slab. The device measures 5.07 x 2.64 x 0.44 inches (129 x 67 x 11 mm) and weighs 6.24 ounces (177 g). That 4.50 inch display delivers an above average pixel density of 245 pixels per inch, resulting in an overall screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The S-LCD display is navigated by capacitive, multitouch gestures, and standard light and proximity sensors are on board.

The hardware package on board the HTC Vivid 4G is a Qualcomm APQ8060 Snapdragon chip set, and includes a dual core Scorpion central processing chip clocked at 1.2 GHz as well as an Adreno 220 chip dedicated to handling graphics duties. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and 16 GB of built-in storage rounds out the hardware set.

The camera combo on board the HTC Vivid 4G handset has a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam which is also capable of placing and receiving video calls, and an 8.0 megapixel camcorder located on the back of the device. That rear snapper comes equipped with a dual LED flash and offers autofocus capabilities. The camcorder on the Vivid 4G records video at 30 frames per second and in 1080P HD resolution, and the chat cam is capable of 720P HD video recording.

An FM stereo joins a proprietary YouTube video player and music player in the multimedia package, and that music player can filter by album, artist or play list, and offers background playback and album art cover. The web browser on board is a full Internet browser, and supports both HTML and Flash technologies. The HTC Vivid 4G comes with Facebook, Picasa and Twitter preloaded, and wireless access is provided through either Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n channels or Bluetooth version 3.0 connectivity.  Buy the HTC Vivid 4G starting at $99.
