The HTC Vivid 4G Android handset is one of several HTC smartphones that will receive a free over the air upgrade to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system in March. Retailing for $119 with a standard two-year activation and data plan on the AT&T 4G LTE network, the HTC Vivid 4G Android handset offers one of the largest displays in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace at 4.5 inches. The HTC Vivid 4G debuted in a very typical smartphone form factor, as a black, slim, rectangular slab. The device measures 5.07 x 2.64 x 0.44 inches (129 x 67 x 11 mm) and weighs 6.24 ounces (177 g). That 4.50 inch display delivers an above average pixel density of 245 pixels per inch, resulting in an overall screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The S-LCD display is navigated by capacitive, multitouch gestures, and standard light and proximity sensors are on board.
The hardware package on board the HTC Vivid 4G is a Qualcomm APQ8060 Snapdragon chip set, and includes a dual core Scorpion central processing chip clocked at 1.2 GHz as well as an Adreno 220 chip dedicated to handling graphics duties. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and 16 GB of built-in storage rounds out the hardware set.
