Australia, the Netherlands and multiple European countries are reporting the HTC One X 4G Android smartphone has begun to receive the Jelly Bean 4.1 Android operating system update. No word from AT&T or HTC when that update would officially rollout in the United States, but seeing it arrive in multiple locations worldwide is a good sign. The handset currently offers Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 as the operating system, delivers a large and high resolution display, and recently received a retail price reduction during the Amazon Wireless holiday sales event to around $39 on contract.

The HTC One X was a spotlight award winner as the 2012 CTIA Best Smartphone to debut at this year’s annual Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association held in New Orleans, Louisiana. Video dedicated website Videomaker lauded the handset as being the first in the world to deliver simultaneous HD video and image capture to a smartphone, and the HTC One X 4G debuted on the AT&T 4G LTE network on May 6 of this year.

Arguably the best all-around AT&T Android smartphone, the HTC One X 4G is capable of video recording in 1,080P HD resolution. The camera package on the handset also delivers impressive extras not found on every smartphone, such as nearly instant image capture in 0.7 seconds, and an f/2.0 lens that captures up to 40% more light than the standard f/2.4 aperture found on most smartphone camcorders. Coupled with the built-in LED flash, that light-sensitive lens makes for excellent low light camera operability.

That rear facing camcorder is 8.0 megapixels, and joins a front facing chat cam which provides video call support in the camera combo on board the AT&T HTC One X. The handset also provides Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box, and video mirroring is delivered through DLNA wireless connectivity. The handset was one of the first to deliver the full range Beats by Dr. Dre audio sound system, and is lighter and thinner than the typical 4G smartphone. The handset weighs 4.55 ounces (129 g), and measures 0.35 inches (8.9 mm) in thickness.

With a large 4.70 inch Super LCD 2 display that is one of the largest you will find on any smartphone, pixel density also runs at the high-end at 312 pixels per inch. This bestows that large touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, protected with a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. The processor on board is a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU, and 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board. 16 GB of storage are built in, and popular destinations Twitter, Picasa, YouTube and Facebook have been pre-installed.

  1. Hey I like the fact that At&t did not make no promises yet they are good company for not letting HTC fans down unlike Verizon I’m happy to be with them with my nexus 4

  2. I’ll believe the roll-out when I get notifciation on my phone – this is the biggest “have” since Barnum and Bailey! It’s certainly affected my confidence in HTC reliability. Clearly the initial deadlines were set to take the shine off other brands – I’d prefer delivery !
