droiddnaThe HTC Droid DNA is a 4G Android powered smartphone running on Verizon’s 4G LTE system in the United States. It arrived in late November of last year, and since that launch has been a flagship device for Verizon. Recently the handset received a significant retail price reduction at the Amazon Wireless store online, and currently sells for around $49 on contract. The phone is powered by a powerful quad core processor, and delivers one of the largest and highest resolution displays found on any smartphone.

The HTC Sense Android UI overlay is present, and teams up with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. The Droid DNA 4G also delivers the exclusive Beats Audio sound enhancement package with dedicated speaker and headset amplifiers, comes equipped with a built-in YouTube video player out-of-the-box, and offers NFC wireless support. HTC has kept the bezel surrounding the display as small as possible to minimize overall dimensions, and the handset measures 5.55 x 2.78 x 0.38 inches (141 x 70.5 x 9.73 mm).

The display on board the high resolution Droid DNA 4G is a 5.0 inch ImageChip ISP S-LCD 3 model, with 16 million different colors represented at the rate of 441 pixels per inch. The Full HD screen has an overall resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels, supports standard capacitive, multitouch gestures, and is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass. HTC has included light and proximity sensors for auto brightness and auto dimming adjustments, and they also help to conserve battery power.

The 2,020 mA battery on board the handset is capable of up to 12.6 hours of talk time and 14.6 days of standby performance from a full charge. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 system chip, the handset has at the core of its hardware package a quad core 1.5 GHz CPU. An Adreno 320 GPU is also on board, as is 16 GB of internal storage and 2.0 GB of RAM memory. A 2.1 megapixel chat cam is built into the front of the Droid DNA 4G, and is capable of video calls.

Moving around to the back of the handset we find an 8.0 megapixel camcorder with exclusive HTC ImageChip technology which removes noise, balances color and helps keep the entire shot in focus. That rear snapper is also capable of shooting high definition video at 1,080P HD resolution, while simultaneously capturing high-quality stills. Low light camera operability is excellent thanks to an extrawide f/2.0 lens, backside illumination sensor (BSI), and built in LED flash. A special effects package has been added to improve customization and personalization of video and snapshots.
