googlenowThere are plenty of things that you can download from the Google Play Store, but the Google Now Launcher is going to be one that you should check out right away.  Talked about for the last few weeks, the Google Now Launcher is going to bring the popular virtual assistant application to all Android powered smartphones if possible.  You can also download other apps from Google like Maps, Chrome Beta and SoundSearch if they are not on your phone already.  The Google Now Launcher is going to be a popular one to check out.

The app can be accessed with a swipe to the right of the home screen.  It will also bring the “Ok Google” voice commands to your phone.  When you say “Ok Google” the SoundSearch application starts and allows you to search via voice.  The information regarding your search query is then shown and you can even have the app speak the results back to you.  By default that part of the application is set to “off”.  The Google Now Launcher is only available on the Nexus and Google Play Editions devices that are running Android 4.4 KitKat software.

The list of the devices that have the Android 4.4 KitKat software is not very big, but it is growing each month as more devices are announced.  The initial rumor about the Google Now launcher was that it would be available for all devices powered by Android, but as of right now that is not the case.  If you have an Android powered device that has the Android 4.4 KitKat software and want to check out the Google Now Launcher app, you can download it for free in the Google Play Store as of right now.  The application also works with tablets that have the new software installed like all versions of the Google Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10 from last year.

Speaking of the Nexus 10, there is a rumor that he next generation model that is expected to replace the original is expected to be released this year.  The Nexus 10 was not as popular as the 7-inch model and that might be blamed on the fact that it was equipped with a dual-core processor compared to the super fast quad-core chipset in both of the Nexus 7 models.
