galaxynote3It might only  be a rumor for now, but a fingerprint scanner on the new Galaxy Note 3 could be a revolutionary piece of hardware if it becomes reality.  For a while now, the iPhone was rumored to be bringing the extra security of the fingerprint scanner to the smartphone, but up until now nothing has materialized for consumers to see for themselves.  Putting one on the Galaxy Note 3 would not only raise the bar for security, it would also open up a bunch of new options for smartphones, phablets, tablets, laptops and more.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $99.

Those options would include the use of more than one profile on the device, which is essentially locked out via the person’s fingerprint.  According to reports, the possibility of a fingerprint scanner would allow for a new feature on the TouchWiz for Android user interface and that is multi-user mode.  Much like the Google Nexus 7 tablets, more than one user could occupy the device and everything that is done with one profile would be saved stored and locked via the fingerprint.  When one users signs out, another can simply scan their fingerprint and the device open up their profile with all personal settings intact.

If you do not have the right fingerprint, you would be directed to a profile that has a much more limited access to the information on the device.  The Galaxy Note 3 gets announced this week and that is when consumers will finally know what the new device is all about.  It is unclear how Samsung is going to make this new feature work, but once the company gets it on a single device, it is likely to show up on smartphones, tablets and laptops in the future.

Over the last few years, Samsung has been using the Multi Window View mode and that allows users to do some serious multi-tasking with more than one window open at a time and something different going on in each one.  Dual User Mode would still be possible on devices that are not equipped with the fingerprint scanner, but it would most likely be activated via pass code rather than fingerprint at that time.  Other features could use the fingerprint scanner including any mobile wallet feature, which would bring additional security to the sensitive information used with the program.

The Samsung Galaxy Note II can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $99.
