At the moment, the Nokia Lumia 920 is one of the more capable handsets in the smartphone market today. In fact, it is one of the two high-end devices in the Windows Phone ecosystem along with the HTC Windows Phone 8X. It is also the flagship device of the Finnish smartphone manufacturer and with this status came the fact that the Nokia Lumia 920 came with impressive components under its hood. Though it did not elevate the Windows Phone platform to the levels reached by Android with the help of the original Motorola Droid a couple of years back, the Nokia Lumia 920 is still notable in making Windows Phone attain the third spot in the smartphone competition.

There is no doubt about the impressive internals of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the impressive capabilities it brings to the table. However, the maxim that “No matter how powerful of popular a smartphone is, there will always be issues that will one way or the other hamper its performance” is still all too true and is also the case with the Nokia Lumia 920. In the case of the Nokia flagship, that little something that makes it a little less powerful does not come from the inside but is rather something that seeps in from the outside – dust.

Looking back, it was reported a couple of weeks back that a flaw in the design of the Nokia Lumia 920’s chassis allows dust to seep through and settle under the front snapper and proximity sensor of the handset. Once there is enough dust build-up, this can cause dropped calls and even prevent users of the handset to access some phone-related menus.

Nokia is already aware of the issue and has promised to come up with a fix for this. In fact, word on the street is that the manufacturer already has a solution and according to our source, Nokia will use a sheath that will be placed around the handset’s front camera and proximity sensor to prevent dust seepage. If everything pans out, this sheath will be an out of the box feature of new Nokia Lumia 920 units while those who have older Nokia Lumia 920 handsets without this feature can go to any Nokia service center and have the sheath fitted. No news yet as to when this sheath will be offered but we will definitely let you know once more details become available.

Despite this dust issue, the Nokia Lumia 920 is still one capable smartphone. The dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1 GB of RAM in its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset work together in generating the computing power needed by the handset. In addition to that, the smartphone also comes with 32GB of internal storage – very generous, but this is all you get because the Nokia Lumia 920 lacks support for memory expansions. In terms of its display, the Nokia Lumia 920 sports a 4.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a 1280 x 768 resolution while its camera department features a main 8MP shooter at its rear panel and a secondary 1.3MP snapper at its front bezel.
