Eco-Friendly LG Viper offers 4G features for those who don’t want to break the bank

Sprint recently reduced the retail price on their Eco-friendly LG Viper that landed on their 4G WiMAX network as the first LTE capable smartphone for that wireless carrier. The handset delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) support, which works with applications like Google Wallet to provide wireless, “no wallet” retail payment options. NFC access also lets you share data wirelessly with another NFC device. The handset does deliver the Android Gingerbread operating system out-of-the-box, but is upgradable to the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system in the near future. A layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass protects the display, and with a chassis made out of 50% recycled plastic, the LG Viper is an Eco-friendly handset.

Launching appropriately enough on Earth Day, April 22, the LG Viper 4G carries a Platinum Certification by Underwriters Laboratories, which designates those consumer electronics devices which offer the highest possible levels of environmental friendliness and ongoing sustainability requirements. Social media destinations YouTube and Picasa come pre-installed in the LG Viper 4G, and the eco-friendly attitude of the handset is even present in the box it ships in. The LG Viper is shipped in 100% recyclable packaging, and all printing uses natural soy inks. Up to 87% post-consumer paper is also employed, and the entire package uses no glue. The LG Viper 4G packaging also contains no PVC, BFR, halogen, beryllium, phthalates or nickel in its construction, and carries CarbonFree certification.

The display on board the LG Viper is 4.0 inches, and delivers over 230 pixels per inch, for an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. More than 16 million individual colors are used to create displays, and that TFT touchscreen comes with light and proximity sensors built in.

Talk time runs approximately 7.0 hours from a single charge of the 1,700 mA battery, and the processor on board is a dual core 1.2 GHz CPU. A graphics specific chip is also present, and a full 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board as well. The LG Viper 4G ships with 4 GB of storage, and a microSD slot is available for storage expansion. A rear facing 5.0 megapixel camcorder graces the back of the handset, offering geo-tagging and autofocus features. A front facing VGA quality chat cam is also on board. The LG Viper 4G was recently reduced to a budget friendly $0.01 on contract at select retailers.
