Finally is probably the word that best applies here, but the Motorola Droid Razr MAXX Android smartphone recently received the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 operating system update at long last. The phone that delivered max talk time, max video playback and max data storage to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE smartphone network in the US now operates on the yummy sounding ICS OS, and several upgrades in performance are noticed. The Kevlar and aluminum coated Razr MAXX 4G gets a new lock screen, folder capabilities, a new burst mode camera option, speak to type capability and several performance enhancements.

The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is on sale now starting at 69.99.

The 4.30 inch display now has a new lock screen, and you can immediately access your camera, phone or text messaging functions from that screen. Simply drag your key icon up down or left to one of those options to open them, and swiping right will wake up your display and show the last screen you were using. The folder capability allows you to reduce the clutter on any of your five home screens. You simply drag shortcuts to your applications on top of each other, and then you can name that folder whatever you desire, for instance, “social media.”

And you can now capture snapshots during video recording, with the new burst mode allowing you to take multiple pictures in succession rapidly. You must enable this option manually in the camera settings. A really neat application is the “speak to type” feature that Android’s 4.0 ICS operating system delivers. You can now dictate e-mails, texts and other content on your Motorola Droid Razr Maxx 4G to any field where the virtual keyboard is displayed. Google promises off-line support for this feature as well in the upcoming Jelly Bean 4.1 OS.

And on the performance side, early users have reported that the handset seems to operate much faster, and is more responsive. These new OS upgrade features combine with the extended-life 3,300 mA battery that delivers 21.5 hours of talk time or 15.0 hours of video playback from a single charge, to make for an attractive offering for those Android smartphone shoppers looking for a sub $100 handset with high-end performance.

The Droid Razr MAXX 4G delivers video recording at 1,080P HD resolution, and has a Super AMOLED Advanced display which is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass coating that provides scratch and chip resistance. The software and hardware inside are nanocoated for splashproof protection, and resolution runs 540 x 960 pixels. The dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor joins a graphics specific chip in the Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 microchip package on board the handset, and the Droid Razr MAXX is one of the slimmest handsets available, at only 0.35 inches (8.99 mm).

Buy the Motorola Droid now starting at 69.99.

  1. I made the mistake of downloading the new upgrade on my rzarmaxx two days ago. I use the phone for calls 90% of the time so the “upgraded” feature that took the favorites list and put a large ghost image next to each name (no, I don’t use or care about photos in my contacts) has cause me to have only six favorites in each screen instead of the nine that were listed in one straight line is really a royal pain.
The worst part is I can’t go back to the original according to the support people at Verizon and Motorola.
Now looking at the iphone 5 to see if it is more user friendly.
