As of the moment, the LTE network of Sprint is still waiting for the green light from execs of the wireless provider for it to get lit up but the wireless provider is already making sure that its subscribers will readily have access to 4G LTE-supporting smartphones in its stable for when the LTE network of the carrier finally goes online.

With regard to that, Sprint already launched its version of the Google flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, along with the LG Viper 4G last April 22 but the most capable addition to the carrier’s lineup of Android-powered, LTE-supporting smartphones is without a doubt the HTC EVO 4G LTE for that matter.

The addition of the HTC EVO 4G LTE to the stable of Sprint was announced back in April with the handset expected to have made its first appearance in the shelves of the wireless carrier last May 18. As we all know now, that planned launch date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE did not push through because the handset got held up in US Customs.

The reason for the holdup is a court ruling that said that the handset from Taiwanese smartphone and tablet manufacture HTC infringed on several Apple patents which prompted the International Trade Commission to hold an investigation and review of the handset. However, the worst is over now for the HTC EVO 4G LTE after it got the clearance to ship and hit the shelves of Sprint because HTC already made changes on the software of the handset and removed the infringing code.

And to appease those who preordered the HTC EVO 4G LTE in hopes of getting to play with the handset ahead of everybody else, Sprint is including a free HTC TPU case designed for the HTC EVO 4G LTE along with a letter of apology from the carrier. According to Sprint, those receiving their handsets with the free TPU case and letter of apology ought to be surprised and delighted with the additions in the retail package of the handset but are reminding those receiving these fringe benefits that the case cannot be exchanged for other accessories. The only question now is will those who preordered their HTC EVO 4G LTE via Best Buy get the same letter of apology and HTC TPU case as soon as they pick up their handset?

As for the HTC EVO 4G LTE, the handset is already running Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system and this is powered by a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset in the circuitry of the handset. With this SoC, the HTC EVO 4G LTE gets a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1GB of RAM to provide the computing power it needs for a snappy performance while its storage space comes up to 16GB. This is still expandable to as much as 32GB through the handset’s memory expansion slot while the display the HTC EVO 4G LTE has a diagonal of 4.7 inches and is of the SuperIPS LCD2 variety made from Gorilla Glass and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The camera department of the HTC EVO 4G LTE is just as impressive with its rear-facing 8MP shooter and 1.3MP front-facer.

  1. I did not receive any fringe benefits with my device when I picked it up from Best Buy on Friday, May 25.

  2. It’s a gel case, not a TPU case.

  3. @James: That’s because Sprint just used the same shipping info as for those who pre-ordered a phone to be shipped to them, not through a 3rd-party retailer for store pick up.

  4. I didn’t get a gel case. However, I preordered from Target and they called me when the phone came in last week. Great experience.

  5. i preordered a phone at bestbuy on friday because sprint closed the preorders on their site early because of the itc i was hoping that i could get one sooner. i called them today to see if they got any in they said no i asked if i would get them before anyone else they said yes. i dont believe it because they probably wont get anymore shipment till the new release date.
