bbz10bThe BlackBerry Z10 is that company’s first ever totally touchscreen driven smartphone. And while it probably will not outsell the iPhone 5 any time soon, it does beat out the Apple handset in a number of ways. Intelligent virtual keyboard features, a much lower price tag (nearly free) and Department of Defense approval all remain solid and attractive options the BlackBerry Z10 delivers that the iPhone 5 simply can not match. Let us explore these and a few other BB Z10 features below.

The BlackBerry Z10 – 4G LTE is available for a reduced sale price now starting at .

First off, the price tag. At only $0.01 on contract when purchased through Amazon online, the BB Z10 is easily the better value than the iPhone 5. And the intelligent keyboard we mentioned above is really sweet. How many times has auto-correct mangled your text attempts? Well, the BlackBerry Z10 virtual keyboard actually has another keyboard layer “under” it, and if you always type a ‘d’ instead of a ‘t’ in a certain word by mistake, the artificial intelligence in the BB Z10 keyboard remembers this. The next time you mistype, the software re-routes your input, automatically correcting the misspelled word.

And incredibly, it offers suggestions for the next word you may want, based on your past performance and interests. The BlackBerry Z10 is also approved for use by all US Department of Defense employees, making BlackBerry the first Mobile Device Management (MDM) provider to receive an ATO (Authority to Operate) designation by the Department of Defense, with the Z10 the first handset to do so. This is because of the high level security and data encryption the phone uses. Put it this way, out of 600,000 handsets okayed for US military network use, 470,000 are BlackBerries.

The iPhone offers FaceTime, which is basically video chat, but the Z10 from BlackBerry allows Screen Share. That means that both users on a video call can view the same document, at the same time. And the intelligence is such that if you need to enter a password while sharing a screen, that information is not shared with your caller. The handset’s battery is also removable, meaning you can replace it without having to buy a new phone, or pop in a fresh battery if you are ever caught without juice and without the support for a charger.

Also, the BlackBerry Z10 delivers a neat TimeShift camera feature that guarantees the perfect shot every time. Unique to BlackBerry 10, the OS on the Z10, TimeShift captures a series of images rather than just one. This allows you to choose just the right frame for perfect shots in any situation (think kids that won’t hold still, party shots, sports). The BlackBerry Z10 also delivers a larger screen at 4.2 inches, an HDMI video-out slot, a common charger port and non-slip body, features the more expensive iPhone 5 can’t match.

The BlackBerry Z10 – 4G LTE can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at .

  1. I have used both and the Z10 is a better phone. It only lacks apps when compared to the Apple iPhone 5 and with BlackBerry App World now boasting over 235,000 apps, the gap is shrinking. I use the Z10 as my main phone now and have never had a problem. The two things that the Z10 does that the iPhone can’t do is multitasking and the HUB. The message HUB is amazing and the feature I love the most. Battery also lasts longer.

  2. Really cool article, highly educational and well-written.
