When a handset sells 10 million units in its first five months of availability, you can usually expect many versions of that smartphone to begin popping up at multiple carriers. That is the case with the Samsung Galaxy  S II, which was first offered in Asia and Europe, and broke the Samsung Galaxy sales record for a five-month launch period. Samsung then signed agreements with all four major wireless carriers in the tech-ravenous United States, and Sprint was the first to release a Samsung Galaxy  S II model, the Epic 4G Touch, in the US. That handset has helped all global versions of the Samsung Galaxy  S II Android smartphone tabulate more than 35 million units in sales, and the award-winning device was recently rewarded with a one $0.01 retail price tag from Sprint at select Sprint authorized retailers.

Far from being just a popular device with Android lovers and smartphone shoppers, the Samsung Galaxy  S II Epic  Touch 4G was lauded last year by industry analysts at the annual 4G World Conference and Expo in Chicago, Illinois as the Best New Mobile 4G Device to arrive in 2011. Beating out all other 4G compatible tablets, laptops and smartphones that were released in 2011, the award reflects the overall high-end feature set offered by the Epic  Touch 4G which is exclusive to that Sprint WiMAX 4G network.

Hitting the smartphone marketplace in familiar candy bar form factor as a flat, black, rectangular slab, the Epic 4G Touch is now also available in white. That handset is average in size and shape when compared to other 4G offerings, measuring 5.11 x 2.74 x 0.38 inches (130 x 70 x 10 mm) and weighing 4.60 ounces (130 g). However, in given that the overall dimensions and weight of the handsets are typical, the display is one of the largest offered by a 4G Android handset. The 4.52 inch display offers 206 pixels per inch, and an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. That Super AMOLED Plus display is presented in over 16 million unique colors, with proximity and light sensors built in.

An above average run time of 8.70 hours is delivered from a single charge of the 1800 mAh battery, and 11 days standby is offered. Samsung chose to stay in-house with their powerpack on board, and the Epic Touch 4G contains an Exynos microchip set that includes a dual core 1.2 GHz Exynos central processor and Mali 400MP graphics dedicated chip. A 1.0 GB RAM memory allotment joins 16 GB of built-in storage in the hardware package. An 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) and 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front) are included in the camera combo. That rear device can record video at 1080 P HD resolution, and that $0.01 retail price makes the award-winning Epic  Touch 4G the most affordable Samsung Galaxy  S II in the US.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G starting at one penny!
