Aside from offering the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system, which in and of itself is rather singular in a world full of Android smartphones, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G LTE handset features unique a “double wide mode” on its camcorder. The 8.0 megapixel camcorder located on the back of the handset benefits from the addition of a high-end Carl Zeiss optics package with f2.2/28mm lens, and that double wide mode gives extra width to scenes, ensuring you capture all of the action. Offered in either Black or Cyan colors, the Nokia Lumia 900 is exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE network and recently received a retail price drop to only $49 with a standard two-year activation at select authorized AT&T online retailers.

One of the first Windows phones to deliver 4G LTE connectivity, the Nokia Lumia 900 boasts the largest Nokia 4G display ever designed, at 4.30 inches. With a pixel density of 217 pixels per inch, overall screen resolution runs 480 x 800 pixels. That AMOLED display is navigated with multitouch gestures, and offers visuals in a stunning 16 million unique colors. Providing glare reduction as well as scratch resistance is a layer of treatment which overlays the screen.

And while the handset was singled out by CNET as the Best of CES 2012 award winner among all mobile devices showcased in Las Vegas earlier this year, that is hardly the only award this speedy Windows phone received. PC Mag also gave the Lumia 900 their Best of CES Smartphone Award, as did Computer Shopper, ZDNet and Laptop Magazine. Award-winning technology in the 4G smartphone marketplace at budget phone prices seldom occurs, and the handset has accordingly been an early sales success for AT&T.

After releasing first-quarter estimates that showed a company-wide loss of billions of dollars, Nokia desperately needs the Lumia 900 to succeed, and it appears the handset is already an unqualified success. Gizmodo.com recently interviewed salespeople from 36 AT&T retail locations across the country, and found that most of those stores sold out of all their available Nokia Lumia 900 stock in the first couple of days after launch.

The handset is still in plentiful supply online, and delivers one of the quicker processors in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace. Anchoring an impressive hardware package is a Qualcomm APQ8055 Snapdragon chip set that includes a 1.4 GHz Scorpion central processor and Adreno 205 graphics microchip. Rounding out the hardware profile is 512 MB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in storage. The 8.0 megapixel camcorder mentioned earlier records video in 720P HD resolution, and the front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam also provides video call functionality.  Buy the Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone starting at $49.
