In today’s smartphone scene with focus on the Android ecosystem, everybody is going gaga over Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system, and when it is expected to land on our respective devices. Though this might be the case, there are still those who are waiting for their handsets to get out of the Gingerbread generation and get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

When talking about ICS updates, or any platform version upgrade for that matter, it can be expected that flagship devices and other ultra high-end handsets are always first in line to receive the update. Sony however has deviated from that norm and gave a couple of its midrange handsets such as the Sony Xperia Mini and Sony Xperia Mini Pro a tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich. At that time, the manufacturer has proven its point that ICS can still work beautifully on a handset that only packs modest components under the hood.

Now, Samsung is doing a Sony-esque move here by rolling out the ICS update to one of its midrangers, the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate. That’s correct folks, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update is now available for the eco-friendly Samsung midrange smartphone released by AT&T back in June.

Sad to say, the ICS update for the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate will not be rolled out in the usual manner via OTA but instead will be made available via Samsung Kies. If you happen to rock a Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate from AT&T, there is no need to be vigilant in looking out for that notification because it will not come. Instead, dig out the handset’s data cable and hook it up to your computer and fire up the Samsung Kies software to get the update process rolling. By the way, before you get too excited, ensure that you have the latest version of Kies software installed on your computer and that your Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate still has at least 50$% of its battery life.

The update is expected to crank up the baseband version of the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate to I577UCLH3 and will come with the usual goodies and treats we have come to associate with the Ice Cream Sandwich version of the Android operating system.

As for the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate, its specs sheet is not as exhilarating as the other high-end handsets in the market today. – which is kinda expected given the fact that the handset is just a midranger. Its operations is powered by a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. Its storage space is a bit measly though at just 4GB but since the handset comes with memory expansion option via its microSD card slot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate comes with a 4.0-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a 480 x 800 resolution. It also comes with a dual-shooter configuration that includes a 5MP shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP video call and self-portrait out front.
