lumia1020Much of the ad campaign for the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone tries to get you to think of it as a camera first, and a smartphone second. And with PureView Phase 1 and Phase 2 mobile camera technologies from Nokia delivered together for the first time, Carl Zeiss optics, a 41 megapixel sensor and Nokia’s pixel binning technology, we are inclined to agree. To help you use what is arguably the most capable and advanced camera ever found on a smartphone more efficiently, Nokia has released a Lumia 1020 Camera Grip accessory.

The Lumia 1020 is definitely what you would call a photographer’s smartphone, but using it as a high-end camera is difficult because it is still shaped like a mobile handset. This new camera grip is specifically made for this device, and makes you feel like you are holding a camera in your hand, and not a mobile handset. A piece of molded plastic wraps around your Lumia 1020 much like a smartphone case would, but there is a significant bulge on one side.

This includes a large shutter button, and even adds certain digital and SLR camera functions. You press halfway to focus and fully to shoot, and the bulging area which fits perfectly into your hand also hides a 1,020 mA battery for more juice. Snapping on the camera grip instantly gives you the feeling of a camera in your hand, and also limits drops. Also built in is a handy tripod mount, and this versatile and convenient Nokia Camera Grip can be purchased at the Amazon Wireless store online.

Also available in Amazon’s Wireless store is the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone itself, offered in multiple color choices like yellow, white and black. The handset is available during Amazon’s Holiday Deals sales promotion, and is powered by the latest version of the Windows Phone Operating system. The tough polycarbonate design makes for a durable phone, and the 4.5 inch AMOLED True HD+ display offers a resolution of 768 by 1,280 pixels.

More than 16 million colors are present on that display, which boasts a polarizing filter and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 scratch resistance. A full 19.10 hours of talk time is available after a full charge (without the additional camera grip battery life), with the battery also delivering approximately 2 weeks of standby battery power. A 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 plus CPU is the cornerstone of the handset’s hardware package, with the Nokia Lumia 1020 delivering 2.0 GB of RAM, 32 GB of built-in data storage and an additional free 7 GB of virtual SkyDrive storage space.
