In today’s smartphone world, Verizon is still considered as the league leader among wireless providers in our side of the world in terms of LTE coverage. This is because the LTE network of Big Red spans the whole United States with its breadth and width. Not only that, Verizon’s coverage is miles ahead of its main competitors, mainly AT&T at the second spot and Sprint with its nascent LTE network coming in at third. Verizon managed to secure this lead because of the head start it had in the rollout of its LTE network but this doesn’t mean that both AT&T and Sprint are not doing their earnest in trying to catch up.

The LG Optimus G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $49.99.

AT&T for one is employing an aggressive 4G LTE rollout strategy to inch closer to what Big Red has managed to achieve so far but the carrier still has a lot of ground to cover if it hopes to be competitive with Big Red for that matter. In fact, several major markets in US shores haven’t been touched by the LTE network of AT&T but that number is decreasing further as the carrier continuously expands its LTE coverage.

In fact, Ma Bell has just announced another expansion it is undertaking that brings its 4G LTE network to several more markets which are mostly situated in the Southeastern part of the country. These new markets where the LTE network of Ma Bell just got lit up are as follows:

  • Augusta, Georgia
  • Macon, Georgia
  • Cleveland, Tennessee
  • Dryersburg, Tennessee
  • Ripley, Tennessee
  • Sebring, Florida
  • Waterbury, Connecticut
  • Meriden, Connecticut

In addition to these new markets, AT&T also confirmed the expansion of its LTE network in Middle Georgia which include Fort Valley, Gray and Waner Robins. With this expansion, AT&T subscribers packing an LTE-capable handset such as the LG Optimus G in the areas mentioned about can now make use of their handsets in taking advantage of the benefits brought to the table by this network such as ultrafast mobile internet speeds.

As for the LG Optimus G, the handset reached official status when its addition to the LTE handset base of Ma Bell was announced back in September. The handset however waited until November before it finally made its debut in the shelves of the wireless provider for mass consumption.

Under the hood, the LG Optimus G runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and this draws power from the handset’s QualComm APQ8064 SnapDragon chipset. This SoC brings into play a quad-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor working with 2GB of RAM in delivering the computing muscle required by the handset. In terms of storage space, the LG Optimus G comes with 16GB of internal memory but this is still expandable and the retail package of the handset also comes with a 16GB microSD card for memory expansion purposes. As for its display, the LG Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS Plus panel with a 1280 x 768 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP video call and self-portrait snapper.

You can purchase the LG Optimus G at a discounted price tag now starting at $49.99.
