In terms of the Android-powered smartphone in the lineup of Sprint, we already knew that the HTC EVO 3D is one of those handsets that will get the upgrade to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. What we don’t know however is when the handset will finally get the refresh to the latest version of the Google mobile operating system.
Just recently, there were news reports that the Virgin Mobile version of the HTC EVO 3D will ship with Ice Cream Sandwich in addition to the fact that a leaked ICs build for the handset from Virgin Mobile surfaced and managed to find its way to the internet. There was a subsequent screw-up however after several users who are fond with tinkering with leaked ICS ROMs flashed the said ROM onto their Sprint handsets only to get a Virgin mobile branding with no obvious way to rectify things. With this kind of development, it was only natural that speculations point to the official Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Sprint HTC EVO 3D already looming in the horizon and will come sooner latter than later.
However, there is still no confirmation regarding that and everything is still based on speculations as of the moment. However, an interview with a Sprint executive put a rest to all the rumors and speculations after David Owens, a VP for the wireless provider, confirmed that the eagerly-awaited Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC EVO 3D is set to arrive sometime in June. In addition to that, Owens also confirmed that aside from getting upgraded to ICS, the HTC EVO 3D will also get its user interface upgraded to HTC Sense 3.6.
At this point in time, we can only hope that what Owens said will pan out. Going back, Sprint was reported in the past to be in the final stages of testing the ICS update for the Samsung galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch but until now, the handset is yet to see the Android 4.0 refresh. Here’s to hoping that that will not be the case for the HTC EVO 3D. And while waiting for that to happen, we are leaving you with the full details of the specs sheet of the handset to give you an idea of what its components and capabilities are.
Currently, the HTC EVO 3D is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread for its operating system and this is powered by a QualComm MSM8660 SnapDragon chipset which brings to the handset a dual-core Scorpion processor running at a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. The handset also packs 1GB of RAM and it also has a dedicated Adreno 220 graphics core to handle messy graphical situations. As for its display, the HTC EVO 3D sports a glasses-free, 3D-capable LCD panel that measure 4.3 inches diagonally and with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. It also comes with a very capable shooting department spearheaded by a 5MP shooter at its back panel and 1.3MP front-facer.
