Those who liked “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” are going to be getting a mobile version. The smartphone is coming up in the world and has gained the attention of Simon Jones, a star of the 2005 movie about the same topic.

Smartphones are going to take a delightful turn for the better, at least if they are made by Apple. The art of hitchhiking and the mobile phone are a natural match. Moving is like breathing for a hitchhiker and mobile phones are, of course, mobile. Apple is the target of an upcoming app for their devices, based on the book “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. It is similar to other things, like Wikipedia sites, but with more humor involved.

Douglas Adams, the author of the book mentioned above is known as the first person to buy an Apple Mac computer. He is no longer in the land of the living, but his legacy is following him with an app dedicated to his work. The iPad, iPhone, and iTouch app that is being developed is being crafted to reflect the humor and forward-looking essence of Douglas Adams. The Hitchhiker’s Guide was supposed to know everything about everything. Now that smartphones are getting close to that, the timing for this app is appropriate.

A iPhone or iPad with the upcoming Hitchhiker’s Guide app on it will be a cool way to be guided through the world. It is possible to go to Wikipedia and get questions on such topics as, “Why the number 42 is the answer to everything.”, but it will not be nearly as entertaining as this app. The Hitchhiker’s Guide app will have Simon Jones’ voice doing the narration, making it much more interesting than looking up facts on Wikipedia. Simon Jones is the original Arthur Dent, the fictitious character on the Hitchhiker’s Guide radio show, before it became a book. If there are still people alive from that time, they will no doubt enjoy this app.

Hothead Games is the name of the company developing the mobile app for the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. They are based out of Vancouver, British Columbia as independent video game developers. They are famous for making role playing games, so they are a perfect fit for this mobile app. They have won awards for their work and in 2007 were named “Most Promising New Company of the Year” by a Canadian Media Awards company.
