The Broadway-style launch of the Samsung Galaxy S IV seems to have set the alarm bells ringing at Cupertino. After being extremely critical of the features of the Galaxy S IV, Apple seems to have gone into damage control mode by launching a ‘Why iPhone’ page on its website. Whether this is a reminder that Apple products still exist or that Apple is afraid of the newest breed of flagship Android phones being unveiled of late is still a mystery.

This recent offensive launched by the Cupertino based company could be viewed as a sandwich of sorts. On one end we have Apple’s senior VP of worldwide marketing claiming that the Android experience isn’t as good as the one iPhone has to offer (a remark that was made before the unveiling of the Galaxy S IV). On the other hand, we have Apple taking to the airwaves and the internet after the launch of the S IV, trying to prove that the iPhone 5 is still better than the competition. The fact that the header on the Why iPhone page reads ‘There’s iPhone. And then there’s everything else.” seems to indicate that the company has decided to once again try and paint the iPhone in a mythical light to show it is still ahead in the market.

The website swarms with catchy one-liners that attempt to justify why the iPhone is better. Further into the website is a description of the various awards the iPhone has received. Also on show is a display of the many ‘meticulous’ detail and the materials that have gone into making the iPhone. An explanation has also been provided regarding the contribution of the aforementioned materials to features like the Retina display, increased battery life and several others which a potential buyer is likely to consider when purchasing a phone. A total of twelve miniature slides have been used to justify why the iPhone is the best smartphone there is, powered by the best platform and boasting the best user experience in the market (at least in Apple’s opinion).

Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac stated that Apple has even mailed a smaller version of the website to Apple customers, which only made the initiative seem more defensive rather than offensive. Technical details and a complete breakdown of specifications of the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S IV are already available on several websites, and don’t paint a very rosy picture for Apple. As far as the user experience is concerned, fans can only wait for the Galaxy S IV to release in order to determine a winner. Be that as it may, this initiative alone is bound to raise several doubts among Apple fans themselves.
