ipadminiiiApple had a press event this week and it was there that they officially announced the new iPad Mini 2.  The second generation tablet is going to replace the original, which was one of the most popular devices that the company ever released to the public.  Rumors have been swirling over the last two months about the new device with the main hope that the new tablet was going to arrive with the popular Retina display.  Those that were at the event and read about it online, know that the device is coming with the Retina display and a price tag that reads $399.

The original iPad Mini was priced at just $330, so the cost of the Retina display is part of the reason you are seeing a price hike this time around.  If you are looking for the most storage that is possible, you are going to be getting the 128GB model for $649, while the 64GB model is just $599 and the 32GB model is going to be priced at $499.  If you are not one that needs the latest and greatest, Apple will be taking the original iPad Mini down to just $299.

Specs for the iPad Mini 2 include the 7.9-inch Retina touch screen display which brings much higher resolution display than the original.  The overall dimensions for the iPad Mini 2 are 7.87 x 5.30 x 0.30 inches, which is a little smaller than the original, plus it weighs only 12 ounces which should add to it portability.  The all aluminum body also has a new 64-bit Apple A7 dual-core processor included at 1.3GHz and a PowerVR G430 graphics processor.  The camera on the back side of the device is 5MP with an F2.4 lens, auto focus, Touch to Focus, Digital Image Stabilization, Face detection and more.  The 5MP camera can also record video at 1080p HD at 30 frames per second.

On the front side you will find smaller bezels which really make the display pop and along the top side you can see the 1.2MP webcam which is perfect for the FaceTime application.  Support for Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi connections, mobile hotspot feature and USB ports are also included in the hardware.  Apple also released the new full sized fifth generation iPad, which they company called the iPad Air.
