Since the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich late last year, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus became one of the hottest smartphones in the Android ecosystem because it was the first handset to run the latest iteration of the Google mobile operating system. Despite this and the fact that being a Google developer device that is supposed to get the latest version of Android to be released by Google, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus got stuck with Android 4.0.2 which was released a couple of months ago.

This is about to change though as Google has confirmed that it is already rolling out the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As always, the rollout of the update is being done via OTA so you might want to manually check for the availability of the update on your handset if you have no plans of waiting for the notification to come up on your device. Once applied to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Android 4.0.4 ICS update is expected to bring goodies such as enhanced phone number recognition, smoother screen rotation, improved camera performance and enhancements to the stability of the handset among others.

Sad to say, this update is only available for the GSM version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus so if you happen to have the Verizon variant of the handset, you are out of luck because there was no official news if this will reach your device. Despite this, the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus is slated to get updated to Android 4.0.5 Ice Cream Sandwich this April so I guess everything evens out. And if you happen to have forgotten the components and capabilities of the handset, we have the specs sheet of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus below to give you a quick memory refresh.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was announced in October to coincide with the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but the handset made its debut in the shelves a month later. The handset has a very sexy profile with its curved design like its predecessor but does not have physical or capacitive keys in its frame. Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is as powerful as it can get thanks largely to the Texas Instruments OMAP4460 chipset in the middle of its circuitry. This SoC gives the handset a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor paired with a full gigabyte of RAM which basically gives the device a performance unmatched in its smoothness and responsiveness. It has 32GB of onboard storage while its display is of the SuperAMOLED variant and has a diagonal of 4.65 inches. The display has an oleophobic coating to protect it from scratches while its resolution is pegged at 720 x 1280 pixels. The camera department of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus however is a little bit below par because it only has a 5-megapixel shooter at its back panel and a 1.3-megapixel camera at its front bezel.

Despite the snags and rough spots of the device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is still one of the best smartphones in the Android spectrum today and if you want one for yourself, select Verizon authorized retailers are offering the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for only $99.99 with a two-year contract with Verizon.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G starting at $99.
