In the Android ecosystem, it is a given that a Google developer device such as its current flagship handset, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, will always get first dibs on whatever update that it releases. In the case of the unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the handset has already gotten the update that will bring it to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich as early as last month.

At that time, there was no confirmation however that the same update will make it to the Verizon version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus given the fact that these updates usually take time heading out to carrier-specific versions of any smartphone for that matter. As of press time, there still is no confirmation coming from either Google, Samsung or Verizon about the supposed Android 4.0.4 update for the handset. Not even a date when the update can be expected to become available is still missing in the equation but there seem to be signs pointing to the arrival of the update to the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus albeit in a rather limited manner.

As a background, whenever Verizon is about to unleash an update for any of the smartphones in its stable of Android-powered devices, the wireless provider can be expected to post the details about the upcoming update in its support forums as an FYI regarding the update’s availability. There is nothing of that sort right now but a couple of Samsung Galaxy Nexus users on Verizon have claimed that they already have received notifications on their respective handsets heralding the availability of the IMM76K update which will bring the software version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Furthermore, these early adopters of the update attested to the fact that they were able to complete the installation and have the update applied onto their devices without encountering any kind of issues for that matter despite the apparent lack of details about the update in the support site of the wireless carrier. In fact, checking the said support pages will give you the most recent update that hit the device way back in December of last year.

As of the moment, we can already safely assume that the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update is already being rolled out to the Verizon variant of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus although the rollout looks to be being done in small quantities for that matter. In fact, there are already upgraded models of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus on display in the brick and mortar stores of the wireless provider but we still can’t ascertain just how widespread the distribution of the update has been. Hopefully, users of the handset who haven’t gotten the notification for this update won’t have to wait very long. We have already reached out to Verizon for comment on this and the moment we hear more about the supposed Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, you will be the first to know.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus starting at $49.
