While AT&T still won’t be pinned down as to a release date for their upcoming Samsung Galaxy S III 4G Android smartphone, Amazon is currently taking pre-orders. They are offering the handset at $189 with a standard new two-year activation and data plan, and the most solid rumors found online center around June 21 as a launch date. Both Sprint and T-Mobile have officially announced the June 21 launch date as when they will be rolling out the Galaxy S III on their networks as well. The handset is set to deliver Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0.4 out of the box, as well as a high resolution screen, and one of the largest displays of any 4G smartphone.

Pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S III from Amazon for only $189.99.

And the AT&T Galaxy S III will also offer simultaneous high-resolution 1,080P HD video recording and image capture, one of only a few current handsets delivering that feature. The Galaxy S III for AT&T will run on their 4G LTE wireless network, and 50 GB of Dropbox storage accompanies each purchase. Offered in Either Pebble Blue or Marble White color, the handset is thin in comparison to other smartphones, at only 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) thick, and light at 4.69 ounces (133 g). 16 GB of built-in storage is present, as well as a full 2.0 GB of RAM system memory. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon microchip package, which includes a graphics dedicated Adreno 225 chip and dual core 1.5 GHz CPU.

At 4.80 inches, the AT&T Galaxy S3 presents one of the largest high resolution displays found on any smartphone. Video and still images are portrayed in more than 16 million individual colors, and at a resolution of 306 pixels per inch. That means the Super AMOLED display has a overall screen resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. That capacitive, multitouch screen is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

An 8.0 megapixel camcorder joins a front facing chat cam in the camera combo, and an FM Stereo radio with RDS is present in the multimedia package, which also includes a proprietary YouTube video player and built-in music player that supports all major file formats. Picasa, Facebook and Twitter social media applications have been pre-installed, and the Galaxy S III for AT&T delivers wireless retail payment processing capabilities through the pairing of the onboard Near Field Communications (NFC) support and Google Wallet app which is offered by the ICS 4.0.4 operating system.
